A mother of three and a call center agent topped the June 2009 Nursing Licensure Examinations.

Golda Manto-Yap, 34 years old, a graduate of Felipe R. Verallo Memorial Foundation (FRVMF), earned a 86.80 percent rating, besting thousands of passers.

Of the total 77,901 examinees last June, only 32,617 passed or 41.87 percent.

“I was not expecting to top the exams. I had a feeling that I will pass because I studied hard, but I didn’t expect that I would end up at the top,” she said during a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin. “I was relieved that I passed and was really happy that I was able to top the exams,” she added.

Yap, married to Bimbo Yap for 13 years, is currently working in a call center in Cebu City and has no plans yet of working for a hospital. After graduating in 2008 in the FRVMF in Bogo City, she started working for a call center. She has worked there for six months now.

“I might not work for a hospital right away. I’m still not sure when, and I’m planning what hospital should I work in. Maybe next year,” she revealed.

It is the first time for a FRVMF graduate to top the exams. Yap revealed that the school is planning to honor her in a ceremony.

Yap first took Nursing in 1991 at University of the Philippines-Manila, then transferred to University of San Carlos in Cebu City to study Business Administration and then shifted to Accountancy until her third year when she stopped schooling and got married.

In 2004, she studied Nursing again at STI College in Dau and then transferred to FRVMF in 2007, where she finished her Nursing course. She also reviewed in three different review centers in Cebu City.

“I realized that being a mother, Nursing is applicable in anything, I can use it to my family. One of the reasons also is getting a job abroad,” she said.
